A Case Study from our Office

Here are some before and after (pre/post) x-rays of a young boy
with learning difficulties. Take note of his lower neck and the left
curvature before the adjustment - look how much straighter (Orthogonal)
his neck is following his 1st specific upper cervical adjustment!
The first x-ray (on the left) shows the effects of an Atlas
Subluxation Complex [patient D.K.] and the second x-ray shows the
correction of the Vertebral
Subluxation Complex.
Following the first adjustment, D.K. noted significant improvements
in his ability to sleep, increased energy and his parents stated that he
seems to "notice more around him."
How many children like D.K. are suffering from Vertebral
Subluxation? Why do so many children go unchecked for nerve
interference (VSC)? How many times have we heard teachers say
that, "Johnny just isn't performing to his
potential"?
The answer is simple - most people are unaware of the devastating
effects of Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Spread the
word...Chiropractic increases EVERYBODY'S potential!

Exercise 'Could Halt Mental Decline'
Exercise can improve mental abilities in the elderly, and go some way to
preventing mental decline, say researchers. Scientists found mental abilities,
or cognitive functioning, improved with exercise. We've
all heard the saying, "use it or lose it" and it seems to ring true
for virtually every aspect of the human body.

Obsession With Fighting Germs Can be Misguided
According to an article from The New York Times published in the San Francisco
Chronicle, using the products may be adding to the problem of bacterial
infection, rather than combating it. The products include soaps, sprays,
dishwashing detergents, lotions, Band-Aids, toothbrushes and toothpaste. The
article says there are even chopsticks made to fend off bacteria.

Veggies:
They're Good Right Down to the Bone
Eat around your plate for good bone health because researchers say that
eating too much animal protein compared to vegetable protein can cause more
rapid bone loss and fracture in postmenopausal women.

Paramedics
On the Job - Without Flu Shots
Toronto paramedics who defy provincial legislation requiring them to get a flu
shot will still be allowed to work - for now. It's
absurd to think that a government can tell you what you have to put into your
body - whatever happened to making our own choices for ourselves? Several
people die each year from being injected with the flu shot - funny how you only
hear about the people who die from the flu...it's a shame they also don't tell
you that it's the very sick and chronically ill who die; they use these scare
tactics to help sell (in my opinion) a worthless bag-of-goods that generates
billions of dollars annually for each vaccine.

Vaccines,
Autism, and the Institutes of Medicine
It looks as though the autism question in vaccination is beginning to get
increasingly more press. This is the second time in two days that we have seen
article headlines regarding the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine and possible links
to autism in children. Several researchers have
made correlations to the MMR vaccine and autism in the recent past, but others
disagree saying the vaccine is perfectly safe. Then there's the side of
parents of autistic children who say their child "changed" immediately
following vaccination.

Ritalin,
Children and Scandal
According to some study estimates, "150,000 to 200,000 children between the
ages of 2 and 4 in the United States are currently receiving prescriptions"
of Ritalin. The drug however has not been tested or approved for use in
children under the age of six. Interestingly,
Ritalin isn't the only drug that is used on young children that hasn't been
tested thoroughly in the age groups in which it's prescribed. With all
prescriptions, you must be proactive and research it well before taking it
blindly - all drugs have side effects and some of the side effects are the same
as what the drug is supposed to treat. If you have a child (or know of a
child) who has been diagnosed with ADHD, get them into a chiropractic office
ASAP - we've seen phenomenal success with these kids; for many, their problems
drastically reduce in a very short amount of time, without dangerous addictive
drugs.

Glucosamine Sulfate - Natures Arthritis
Cure
Because I've found this to be so beneficial to so many patients, I
thought I'd list this page so you can see all the research behind this
supplement. I can't tell you how many patients of mine swear by this
simple product for their common degenerative joint pain. One word of
caution though - make sure you buy a quality supplement, not something at
the local grocery store, go to your local natural food store for the best
selection. The research suggests 1500 mg/day to obtain the most
benefit.

Tums called "poor choice" as calcium
supplement (A must read)
I can't begin to tell you how many patients come in telling me that their
doctor told them to take Tums for calcium. It truly amazes me how many
doctors get their education from the TV - few realize that the vast majority of
doctors have had little or no training in nutrition. If someone truly
needs more calcium in their diet, the first choice should be dark green
vegetables like broccoli. If that person is unable to get enough good food
into their body and needs supplementation, why not find a quality
supplement. The calcium in Tums (calcium carbonate) is only about 4%
absorbable and that's in someone with normal stomach acid - then, introduce
acid-blockers found in these antacids and the absorption rate drops to almost
nothing. Secondly, regularly taking these products can lead to
constipation and milk-alkali syndrome (to name a few). Furthermore, you
NEED acid to digest food - taking antacids throws off your physiologic balance
and disrupts your ability to absorb all of the the nutrients contained in the
food you eat.

TV Viewing Harmful to Nutrition
From the Pennsylvania State University comes not so bright a lightning
flash--families who have a television on at mealtime tend to have poorer
nutritional habits than those who don't eat around a TV set. (Remember
eating Swanson TV dinners as kids, if you do, the study was
unnecessary). The other finding of the study was that girls as young
as five years old tend to have reduced self-esteem about their weight if
mom has concerns about the same for the child. The kicker in the deal was
not just that self-esteem was lower, but that cognitive ability was also
found to be lower in these young girls. The lead researcher Dr.
Leann Birch reported her findings in the journal Pediatrics and concluded
that withholding food from overweight children, especially girls, was
unproductive to counterproductive and that what should be done is to stock
the larder with healthy foods and get the kids more active.

Why McDonald's Fries Taste So Good
Little do we know what the men and women in white coats at America's
food labs are up to. Well, I'll tell you... after reading the article
referenced below, you're going to feel the same way I feel...utterly
appalled. Did you ever wonder why McDonald's fries taste so good? Or
why something that has 50 listed ingredients, most of them chemicals,
smells delicious? For answers, take a deep breath and get ready to
be disgusted, and enlightened, as you read Eric Schlosser's utterly
fascinating article entitled "Why McDonald's Fries Taste So
Good."

New Evidence Connects Nausea in Pregnancy to
Sense of Smell
Based on data from a pilot study, Stanford researchers hypothesize that the
"morning sickness" many women experience during pregnancy may be
connected to a heightened sense of smell.
