A Case Study from our Office
This patient (CE), is a 7-year-old boy who had his first x-ray
on 4/30/99 (far left film). Then, a couple of days later he fell out of a tree
approximately 12-feet, landing on his back and right side. The second
x-ray was taken on 5/5/99. The single x-ray (in the middle) was taken on 6/4/99. Note how the spine returned to it's normal
position.
Notice the dramatic increase in scoliosis
following the fall from the tree. It's interesting to note
that on the first x-ray (upper left), there was a mild list
(leaning over) to the right, then following the trauma, there is a
dramatic scoliosis in the opposite direction. The film in
the middle shows the correction following 1-month of chiropractic
care.
And to think that some people assume kids don't
need chiropractic!?
The films on the far right are frontal neck
views of the same child. Notice the image on the left and
the dramatic head tilt and atlas (C1 vertebra) side shift
(elevation/rotation) to the right. The image on the right
was taken immediately following the first Atlas Orthogonal
Chiropractic adjustment. Notice how the atlas returned to a
more normal, neutral position and the head tilt is now gone!
Think about how many children are suffering
needlessly due to atlas subluxations; they're simple to find and
easy to fix - get your child checked today for the devastating
effects of nerve irritation.

Smokers at Greater Risk for Back Pain
What's bad for the heart may also be bad for the back,
new research shows. In a study spanning more than a half century,
researchers have found that smoking, high cholesterol and high blood
pressure may each increase the risk of lower back problems.
Additionally, MRI studies of identical
twins (one smoked, the other didn't) show that with similar past
histories (excluding smoking) for trauma, etc., the one who smoked had
accelerated degenerative disc and joint disease. If you smoke now,
quit - it's as simple as that.

Vitamin C-Rich Diet Lowers Risk of Death
Fruits and vegetables high in vitamin C are
associated with a reduced risk of death from all causes including heart
disease and stroke, British scientists said Friday.
We are one of the few mammals
that don't produce our own Vitamin C in our liver. We've known for
years that Vitamin C is a very important antioxidant and serves several
vital functions in our body...if you're not getting enough in your diet,
it's time to supplement yourself. The best solution is to get it
from your food, the second best is to supplement; remember, supplements
are only designed to "supplement" a deficient diet.

Pacifiers, part of the
Perpetual Infancy Syndrome
Please
bear with me while I rant and rave: What is this business of
allowing children older than 6 months to walk/ride/be carried
around with pacifiers protruding from their mouths?!!

This
is an interesting article that provides some thought provoking
attitudes toward pacifier use. While I find it to be a good
article, I did feel that it left out some important points so I
wrote the author my opinion...here it is:
Great
article. Another important factor to consider is that
pacifier use is linked to the increased incidence of otitis
media (ear infections), which is the number one reason parents
take their kids to pediatricians. Then, undoubtedly the
child will receive a prescription of antibiotics to start them
on the path of harboring antibiotic resistant strains of
bacteria...not to mention disruption of the normal gut flora
and interference with normal nutritional absorption and the
manufacturing of certain vitamins in the gut.
Additionally,
pacifier use discourages breast-feeding as the child learns
the shape and feel of a rubber nipple. One of the many
things this country needs is more breast feeding - I contend
that there is a lot of unnecessary illness in our children as
they have been raised on artificial formula and sugary juices.

Study Casts Doubt on Down Screening
Several features on ultrasound scans that
doctors thought were warning signs of Down syndrome are almost always
harmless, leading many women with normal fetuses to undergo unnecessary
amniocentesis, researchers say.
This is a very interesting and troubling
topic. I've heard of several instances where people have been told that
their unborn child had Down's Syndrome based on multiple tests (ultrasound
& amniocentesis) only to find out after having their child that the
baby is perfectly fine. This
is a nice reminder that no test is 100% perfect, therefore you had better
think really hard about what decision you make based on any test.

Flabby minds...
A fatty diet can clog your brain as well as your coronary
arteries
Scientists in Canada say that a high-fat diet
not only clogs arteries and piles on the pounds, it can also impair
memory.

Superbug
Costs $50 Million a Year, Study Finds
Fighting off a deadly superbug that is making inroads in
Canadian hospitals is costing more than $50 million a year, a new report
shows. The superbug costs between $50 million and $60 million each year
in extended patient hospital stays, expensive drug treatments and
infection control measures.

Mothering Magazine calls to boycott
NBC's ER
Journalists around the world are threatened, tortured and murdered for
telling the truth. As journalists in the US we have immense privilege not
enjoyed in many other countries. With this privilege comes a
responsibility. You especially, the writers for ER, have a privileged
platform from which to tell the truth and instead you have used your
privilege for propaganda.

"When
friends ask should children be immunized, my answer is no."
By James Le Fanu
This is an excellent commentary
on the MMR vaccine and autism. There is so much literature out now
that clearly shows the link between mass vaccination with this vaccine and
the escalating incidence of autism. If you believe in inoculating
your child (clearly, I don't...and this choice is based on extensive
reading on the subject and looking at epidemiologic data and outcome
studies), I would strongly insist that you thoroughly investigate this
topic. If after doing your homework, you insist on vaccinating your
children, insist on separate dose vaccines, i.e. a separate measles,
separate mumps and separate rubella with several days or weeks between the
doses.

"My
suspicion, which is shared by others in my profession, is that the nearly
10,000 SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
deaths that occur in the United States each year are related to one or
more of the vaccines that are routinely given children. The
pertussis (the "P" in DPT) vaccine is the most likely villain,
but it could also be one or more of the others."

Robert Mendelsohn, M.D.
